Behind Closed Doors

Chapter 10

Sasha sat down on the couch and focused her attention to the movie playing. 'I missed 3/4 of the movie!' she thought to herself. 'I didn't realize so much time went into taking care of 3 kids!'

Tyler turned around to face Sasha. "I don't wanna watch the rest of the movie. If I get ready for bed, will you read to me?"

"Sure Tyler. Why don't you go upstairs and take a bath. I will be up in a minute."

"I take showers of a morning. Otherwise my hair gets all messy while I sleep and I look like Bailey."

Sasha laughed. "OK. Go put on your pajamas and pick out a book. I'll meet you upstairs." She said getting up from the couch to eject the movie and return it to the shelf. She picked up Tyler's juice glass and took it to the kitchen. She washed the small amount of dishes left over from dinner and then wiped down Bailey's high chair. She put the left over pizza in the refrigerator and checked to make sure the pizza she was keeping warm for Brian wasn't getting too hot. She turned out the lights in the kitchen before heading to Tyler's room. She found Tyler sitting on his bed with a familiar book in his hands. "So what are we reading today?" She asked already knowing the answer.

"Dad has been reading to me from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban ."

"I love Harry Potter!" Sasha stated enthusiastically.

"You read Harry Potter?"

"I have read all of the books at least twice."

"Really?" The little boy asked, his eyes growing wide in amazement.

"Yes really! Goblet of Fire is my favorite.

"Dad says we need to read the books in order. We just started this one last night." He said matter of factly as he handed Sasha the book. "We are on Chapter 2."

Sasha took the book and sat down next to the boy. "Your dad is right. If you don't read them order then they don't really make sense." She opened to the second chapter. She took a deep breath and started to read aloud. "Harry went down to breakfast the next morning to find the three Dursleys already sitting around the kitchen table. They were watching a brand-new television, a welcome-home-for-the-summer present for Dudley, who had been complaining loudly about the long walk between the fridge and the television in the living room. Dudley had spent most of the summer in the kitchen, his piggy little eyes fixed on the screen and his five chins wobbling as he ate continually."

"Can I ask you something Sasha?" Tyler interrupted.

"Sure Tyler. What do you want to know?"

"Have you ever been in love?"

"What?" Sasha wrinkled her eyebrows. She had expected Tyler to ask a question about the book, not about her life.

"Have you ever been in love and wanted to marry someone?"

Sasha thought for a minute. 'He's obviously got something on his mind. I wonder what is going on?' She closed the book. "That is a hard question. I think I have been in love to a certain degree but I didn't want to get married at the time." The little boy nodded. "Are you in love with someone Tyler?" She asked, not really knowing what else to say.

Tyler rolled his eyes at her. "I'm 7. I don't even like being on the same jungle gym as girls right now."

"Oh." Sasha tried not to laugh.

"I don't think my mom loves my dad anymore." He said softly.
