Chapter 11
Sasha's heart skipped a beat. "Why do you say that Tyler? I think your mom and dad love each other an awful lot."
"Mom is never home. And when she is home, dad sleeps in the guestroom."
"Tyler, your mom has to be away for her job. It doesn't mean she doesn't love your dad anymore."
"Then why don't they sleep in the same bed? Aren't married people supposed to sleep in the same bed?"
"Well, married people do usually sleep in the same bed but maybe there is a reason your parents don't. It doesn't mean they aren't still in love."
"Like what? I mean what reason?"
Sasha said the first thing that popped into her head. "Maybe your dad snores and it keeps your mom awake so he sleeps in the guestroom so she can get some sleep."
"I don't think so."
"I don't know what to say Tyler. I think your parents are one of the happiest, most in love couples I have ever seen. I don't think you need to worry about them not loving each other."
"They don't kiss each other every time they see each other like Kevin and Kristin do."
Sasha giggled. "I'll let you in on a little secret, if you promise not to tell anyone Tyler. Can I trust you?" The little boy nodded enthusiastically. "Kevin and Kristin are from another planet."
Tyler laughed. "They are not! You're teasing me!"
"Yes, I am. I have never met anyone who hugs and kisses as much as they do!" She shook her head. "Your parents just don't show their love in public like Kevin & Kristin do. It doesn't mean they don't love each other just as much as Kevin & Kristin do though." She hoped her words were reassuring enough for the little boy.
"I guess so." He quietly agreed. Sasha opened the book again. "I don't think I want a story tonight Sasha. I am kinda tired now that I think about it."
Sasha closed the book. "It is getting late." She said standing up. She helped Tyler pull back the covers and waited for him to get settled before tucking him in. "Lights on or off?" She asked.
"Off and close the door please." He yawned. "Sasha?"
"Yes, Tyler?"
"Thanks."
"For what?"
Tyler fingered his blanket but didn't look up at her. "For talking to me."
Sasha bent down and kissed his forehead. "You're welcome Tyler." She walked over to the doorway. "Don't worry. You're mom and dad are in this for life." She turned off the lights, closed the door and headed back downstairs. 'No wonder Leighanne and Brian are so thin. They must run off every calorie they consume going up and down these stairs a few hundred times a day!'
'9:30.' She mused sitting down on the couch in the family room. 'I'm exhausted! I have only had the kids less than 5 hours. How do Brian and Leighanne do this every day?' She wondered. She stretched out on her back and closed her eyes. Her conversation with Tyler echoed in her head. As she replayed the evening in her head, she came to the realization that the only time Tyler or Hannah had mentioned their mom the entire evening was during the conversation in Tyler's room. They had both mentioned Brian repeatedly though.
Dad orders pizza a lot when mom is gone.
Dad usually gives her those yucky medicine Popsicles when she is sick.
Cruella is scary! I only like to watch that one when daddy is home.
Dad says we need to read the books in order.
'I'm sure it is just a coincidence since Brian is home with them more lately.' She sighed. Still, when she thought about it, she had to admit that Brian and Leighanne were not as affectionate with each other has they had been when she first met them. 'All marriages go through stages like that. I'm sure it is nothing unusual.' She blinked a few times and then succumbed to the sleep she so desperately needed.
