Chapter 20
Sasha watched as Brian's entire body visibly broken down. He lowered his head to his hands and began to sob uncontrollably. She moved closer to him and wrapped her arms around him, bringing his head to her shoulder. She stroked his hair. "I'm so sorry Bri." She whispered. Seeing Brian cry was emotionally devastating to her. She knew she was near a breaking point as well.
Brian didn't move from Sasha's embrace. He felt comfortable being held close to her. The reservations he had about telling her his situation were beginning to dissolve. 'She is listening with an open mind. She didn't jump right up and accuse Leighanne of being a bad person. She asked for the facts and she is not judging me or blaming either of us for what happened.' He sighed. "She said nothing had happened between the two of them." He wept softly. "But he was wearing a robe."
"He was wearing a robe?"
Brian nodded slowly. "I knew there wasn't enough time between my seeing them in the lobby and the time I arrived at the room for anything to happen but I was still suspicious."
"And rightly so." Sasha replied. "What was the explanation for the robe?"
"He had just come up from the pool and stopped by her room for lunch so they could rehearse for Monday."
"Oh really?" Sasha chortled.
Brian raised his head up from her shoulder and returned to a sitting position, still facing her. He reached for his drink and drained the remaining contents in one gulp. "Obviously I knew they were lying but I didn't want to cause a scene in front of the kids so I went along with them." He sighed. "I found out the guy's name was Mike. He left shortly after I arrived." Brian laughed softly. "I still don't know if he had a room at the hotel or if he had to hail a cab wearing a bathrobe!"
"That would have been a sight to see!"
"Yeah! It would have!" Brian chuckled. He looked down at his hands as he absentmindedly began picking at a cuticle. "Leighanne and I talked for a long time that day. Luckily, the kids were a little jetlagged so they slept quite a bit. She admitted she and Mike were having an affair." Brian's voice broke. He closed his eyes and attempted to regain his composure. "She said she still loved me and that she had just gotten caught up in her role. She promised me she would end everything when she returned to work on Monday. We tried to make the most of the weekend but truth be known, I couldn't even look at her."
"So what happened? Did she end the affair?" Sasha probed. She was still in a state of shock at Brian's revelations. 'Leighanne is one of the last people I would have ever suspected of cheating on her husband!' She thought silently. 'Leighanne, Kristin and Sam all seem like the perfect, loving, devoted wives and mothers. Am I wrong about all of them?' She wondered?
