Behind Closed Doors

Chapter 25

Brian entered the guestroom and flipped on the lights. He sighed audibly. His head was pounding from the combination of the tears he had shed and the brandy he had consumed yet he felt physically, as well as emotionally better than he had in months. 'Confiding in Sasha was the right thing to do.' He surmised as he turned back the covers on the bed. He felt a slight stirring in his stomach when Sasha entered the room wearing the t-shirt and bottoms he had given her. 'I really shouldn't drink on an empty stomach.' He thought climbing into bed. He felt suddenly awkward at having asked Sasha to sleep in the same bed he was. 'Nothing is going to happen.' He reassured himself. 'I just don't want to sleep alone tonight. This is no different than when Nick used to get lonely and want to sleep in my bed.' He watched as Sasha settled under the covers. 'It is strange to be in the same bed with a woman other than Leighanne.' He mused. He was brought back to reality by the sound of Sasha's voice.

"Brian," She said touching his arm. "Are you sure you want me here? Would you rather go to your own bed?"

Brian shook his head. He edged closer to Sasha and put his head on the pillow next to hers. "I don't want to be alone tonight Sawsh."

"OK." She bit her lip and contemplated what to say next. She didn't want it to seem like she was putting moves on Brian but she wanted to hold him and comfort him, and that was what she sensed he wanted. "Do you want to…"

Brian interrupted her thoughts with the words she was searching for. "Would… it be OK if we kind of… cuddled?" He asked with trepidation.

Sasha nodded. "I was just about to ask you if you wanted me to move a little closer."

"Yes, please." Brian said softly, rolling onto his side to face her. "How about if we spoon?" Sasha nodded and rolled on to her side. Brian scooted closer to Sasha and wrapped his arms around her waist. He placed his chin on her shoulder. "Thank you so much for everything you have done for me tonight Sawsh. I'm really glad you were here." He whispered. He kissed her shoulder. "Will you be able to sleep like this?"

"I'm fine Brian. You just tell me if I get too heavy on your arm OK?"

"Mmmmhmmm." Brian mumbled.

Sasha closed her eyes. Even though she was the one trying to comfort Brian, she felt very safe and comfortable being held in his arms, despite how awkward the situation was. 'Why do I feel guilty for being here and yet feel like this is where I am supposed to be at the same time? Brian is my boss. This is NOT a sexual situation. I have nothing to feel guilty about. So why do I then?' She opened her eyes. She could tell Brian had fallen asleep. 'He has got to be completely drained.' She thought. 'And fairly intoxicated.' She added. 'Definitely not a sexual situation.' She reassured herself. She closed her eyes again and before another thought could cross her mind, she was sound asleep as well.
