Chapter 26
Sasha awoke to sunlight streaming through the bedroom window. She had no idea what time it was but she guessed it was after 9:00 a.m. since the sun was so bright. She inhaled deeply. For a brief moment, she forgot where she was. She closed her eyes as the events of the previous night came back to her, flooding her mind like scenes from a bad movie of the week. She opened her eyes again. 'I don't believe I spent the night in Brian's bed. That probably wasn't a good thing to do. What if Tyler or Hannah had walked in?' She tried to arch her back. Brian's elbow was poking her in the small of her back. She attempted to turn over but found it impossible since both of Brian's arms were still wrapped tightly around her waist. 'Uh oh.' She thought. 'That is not his elbow poking me in the back.' Her face felt suddenly hot. 'I need to get out of here!' She panicked. She placed her hands on Brian's arms and gently shook them. "Brian," She said loud enough she hoped it would wake him. "I think we need to get up. I don't want the kids to find us in here."
Brian snuggled closer to her. "Tyler will get breakfast for Hannah and if Bailey wakes up, he knows to wake us up too." He kissed her shoulder. "All is quiet. Why don't we take advantage of it?" He pulled her back towards him and kissed her neck, working his way to her shoulder.
"BRIAN! WAKE UP!" Sasha said firmly. 'At least I hope he is still asleep.' She silently prayed.
"Hmm?" Brian opened his eyes. He blinked several times, still drifting in no man's land between being asleep and being awake. His arms felt numb. His head felt as if someone was using a jackhammer on it from the inside out. He inhaled deeply and realized there was a definite female smell to the room. 'Vanilla body spray' he thought. He opened his eyes and focused straight ahead of him. The events of the previous night began to unfold in his mind as Sasha's dark brown hair came into focus. 'I think I drank every drop of brandy in the house. No wonder my head is pounding.' He was overtaken by panic when realized he was not dreaming about having Sasha in his bed and what he had just said as he had awakened. His panic turned to a feeling of modified dread when he realized the state he had awakened in. He let go of Sasha and bolted upright. "Oh God! Sasha I'm sorry. I…I…I was…I mean I forgot…" He ran his hands over his face before drawing his knees up and bring his head to rest on them.
Sasha sat up. She bit her lip and smiled, relieved Brian had still been partially asleep a few minutes before. She rubbed his back. "It is OK Brian. I thought we might want to get up before Tyler or Hannah find us in here. It could be a little confusing to them." She said, choosing not to further embarrass Brian by acknowledging what had just happened.
Brian raised his head up but could not look at her. "Sasha, I'm so sorry. I…"
"Shh…Don't worry about it Brian." She assured him as she hugged him. "You were sleeping pretty deep. I bet you haven't slept that good in a long time."
Brian shook his head. He was relieved Sasha wasn't going to make a big deal out of his statement and circumstance. "No, I don't remember the last time I slept so well."
"I'm going to go get dressed and check on the kids. Why don't you take a shower and then we can talk about what we want to do today."
"Sawsh…" Brian replied shaking his head. "You've done enough already. Go home and enjoy your weekend. I'll be fine."
"I will do whatever you want me to do Brian. I think maybe you need a little time to yourself to do some thinking though so I don't mind taking the kids out for the day."
Brian ran his hands over his face. "You're sure you don't mind?"
"I don't mind at all. It'll be fun."
Brian nodded. "OK. I'll be down in a few minutes."
"See you then." Sasha replied, heading for the bathroom to get dressed.
