Behind Closed Doors

Chapter 42

Sasha giggled softly. "They're good kids Brian. It has been a long couple of days for them."

"Yeah." Brian nodded his head. "And Tyler is right." He whispered. "He does kind of get shafted sometimes because of the girls. Did you fight with your siblings when you were growing up?"

"Not really, but you have to remember I was an accident and they were all a lot older than me so by the time I was old enough to argue with them, they were rarely home."

"I don't think you were an accident Sasha! God creates everyone with a purpose in mind for them."

Sasha opened her mouth to speak but changed her mind on what she wanted to say before she uttered any of the words. She looked down at her hands. "I don't want to debate my existence Brian. It is no secret in my family that I was an accident." She picked at her cuticle. "Danny was 12, Eric was 10 and Kelli was 8 when I was born. My parents even went as far as trying to find someone to adopt me right after I was born. They had their family. They didn't want me."

"That's ridiculous Sasha! Of course they wanted you! If they hadn't, then they wouldn't have raised you in their house."

"No." Sasha shook her head. She picked up a pillow beside her and set it on her lap. "Eric convinced them to keep me. He said he would help take care of me." She added picking at the pillow. She prayed desperately that Brian would drop the conversation.

"Well, I still maintain God creates everyone with a purpose in mind and that you are here for a reason." Brian smiled at her. "Would you like a glass of wine?"

Sasha laughed. "Wine & Mary Poppins. Sounds like a great combination to me! Why not?" She smiled. "Thanks Brian."

"I'll be right back."

Sasha watched Brian exit the room before turning her gaze to the children. 'They are beautiful and despite what Brian may think, they are very well behaved. I'm sure there is no doubt in their minds that he loves them.' She sighed. She wanted the movie to get over with quickly so she and Brian could finish their conversation from the previous night and she could go home. All of the talk about her family had her extremely tense. A part of her knew the longer she stayed at Brian's, the safer should would be but she really didn't want to get into any more discussions concerning her family. Brian entered the room carrying 2 glasses of wine. He handed one to Sasha. "Thanks." She smiled at him. Brian nodded and returned to his position beside her on the couch.
