Chapter 48
Sasha set her water bottle down on the table in front of her. She turned to face Brian, drawing her legs up onto the couch Indian style. "Tyler is a very astute and observant little boy Brian. He is more aware of what's going on than you realize."
"What makes you say that?" Brian asked turning back toward her.
"Last night, I started to read to Tyler from the book you are reading to him. I barely got through the first paragraph of the chapter when he asked if he could ask me a question. I assumed he meant about the book. What he asked me though was if I had ever been in love and wanted to get married."
"He asked you that?"
Sasha nodded. "I told him I thought maybe I had been in love but I had never considered getting married. I asked him if he thought he was in love with someone."
Brian laughed. "Tyler is still at the 'Girls have cooties' stage of his life. I don't think he is in love with anyone!"
"No!" Sasha chuckled. "He made it perfectly clear he is not in love with anyone at this time!" She bit her lip and looked down at her hands. "He told me he didn't think his mom loved his dad anymore." She raised her gaze to Brian's face. He looked crestfallen. "I'm sorry Brian."
"He actually said he doesn't think Leighanne loves me anymore?"
"I'm afraid so. He is a very smart little boy Brian. For every one of his questions I answered- 'Why is mom never home anymore?', 'Why don't they sleep in the same room?', 'Why don't they kiss like Kevin & Kristin do?'. For every question I thought I had a good answer for, he had an answer that disputed my logic!" She shook her head. "I don't think he is going to be surprised when you tell him Brian." She put her hand on his arm. "I think he is going to be relieved."
"I had no idea he had picked up on what was going on." Brian replied shaking his head. "I guess it wasn't hard to miss. Why didn't he say something to me?"
"I don't know Bri. Maybe he was afraid he would upset you?"
"Maybe." Brian agreed. "I wonder if Hannah is aware too?"
Sasha shook her head. "I doubt it Brian. She is still at an age where she is blissfully ignorant of anything you don't come right out and tell her."
"You're probably right." He laughed softly. "She still has trouble matching her socks. I doubt she has picked up on the fact Leighanne and I aren't as intimate as we used to be."
"She may have sensed something was wrong, but I don't think it will be at the level Tyler has."
Brian closed his eyes. "Looks like tomorrow is going to be quite a day around here."
"Why don't I leave so you can get some rest and plan out what you want to say to everyone?"
"Are you sure you will be OK driving home Sawsh?" Brian asked concerned.
Sasha nodded. "I'll be fine." She arose from the couch and went into the kitchen to throw her bottle away, followed by Brian.
"I'll walk you to the door."
"Thanks."
