Behind Closed Doors

Chapter 51

Three months later…

If I present it to you
With a flower in the moonlight
Shiny and new
Well, you couldn't say no tonight
If I keep my heart out of sight

If I play my role just right
Then tonight could be my lucky night
And you could be mine.

Brian looked at his watch. "6:45" He whispered. "Sasha should be here any minute now." He lit the candles on the table before going to check on the chicken baking for their dinner. He had dropped the kids off with Howie and Sam earlier in the day and then spent the rest of the afternoon preparing the meal. He wasn't a gourmet but he was pretty proud of what he had come up with. He heard the doorbell ring. He took a deep breath and walked to the foyer. He didn't know where the evening would lead but he did hope to convince Sasha he wanted to be more than friends. He also needed to talk a little business with her before putting his plan into action. He hoped by the end of the evening he would know where he stood business wise as well as personally.

The past 3 months had been rather tumultuous. Things had not gone as planned with his divorce. Sasha had stepped in whenever and wherever he needed her. She ran the office by herself for weeks in order to give him time with the kids to get them acclimated to the fact their mom would no longer be living at the house. She had taken Hannah to dance class and Tyler to soccer practice and even stayed with the kids for 3 days while he had gone to Atlanta to try to iron out the final details of the divorce. The day Leighanne came to move her stuff out, Sasha took the kids while the moving van was there to help ease the trauma. She picked them up before Leighanne arrived and brought them back after the van was gone. To them, the visit seemed like a normal visit with their mom. Thanks to Sasha, they hadn't been witness to the screaming match that occurred that day. Brian felt he owed her a huge debt of gratitude but more than that; he wanted her to know how important she had become to him personally. He had agonized over and analyzed his feelings for Sasha since the first time he kissed her. He was afraid he was fooling himself at first. Afraid that his feelings had more to do with the divorce than with Sasha herself. He questioned if it were even appropriate to have feelings for Sasha when he wasn't even divorced yet. In truth, he decided he didn't need the paperwork to finalize the divorce. He had been divorced from Leighanne for over 3 years. Probably closer to 4 if you didn't count their brief reconciliation when he first found out she was having an affair. He had finally rationalized that Sasha's presence in his life was a Godsend. It was something that was meant to be.

He put his hand on the doorknob and slowly opened it. The sight of Sasha dressed up took his breath away.
