Chapter 54
Brian returned to the dining room carrying a steaming dish straight from the oven. He set it down on a cooling rack in front of Sasha. "One more dish." He said to her as went back to the kitchen.
Sasha felt her stomach growl as she inhaled the delicious aroma of the chicken Brian had placed in front of her. She took a sip of her water in hopes of calming her nerves. She heard Brian enter the room again. He set a dish of scalloped potatoes next to the chicken. "Everything smells WONDERFUL Brian! I can't believe you went to so much trouble just for me!"
Brian opened the champagne. "You deserve it Sawsh!" He said pouring a glass of champagne and handing it to her. "I don't think I will ever be able to thank you enough for everything you have done for the kids and I these past few months."
"I only did my job Brian." Sasha replied blushing. She took a sip of her champagne. She wasn't a big drinker but champagne was a definite weakness for her. She loved the taste and the light, giddy feeling it left her with. She knew she needed to be careful tonight and stay alert though or she might wind up saying or doing something she would regret later. She set her glass back down.
"Your job?" Brian laughed before taking a sip of champagne. "Sasha, what you have done lately has been far beyond anything in your job description!"
"I wouldn't say that. 'Personal assistant' encompasses aspects of a job most people probably don't even think of!"
"Well, " He said taking her hand in his. "I think you have gone out of your way to make things easy for me and I really appreciate it." He brought her hand to his lips and kissed it. "I'm starving!" He declared. "Do you mind if I say grace or would you like to?"
"Please go ahead Brian. I'm sure you are much better at it than I am!"
They both bowed their heads. "Oh heavenly Father. We thank you for this feast you have set before us. We ask you for your blessing this evening and thank you for your guidance these past few months. Thank you for bringing Sasha in to my life and lives of my children. She is truly an angel sent by you. In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. Amen."
"Amen." Sasha echoed. "That was really sweet Brian. Thank you."
"I meant it Sasha. I don't know how I would have made it through all of this without your help." He placed his napkin in his lap and looked around the table. "I forgot the salads!" He laughed springing up from the table. He placed his napkin on his chair. "Be right back."
Sasha giggled softly. 'Brian thought of everything.' She mused, taking another sip of her champagne. 'It is all very romantic but I cannot allow myself to get caught up in the situation. Not right now. Not ever.'
