Behind Closed Doors

Chapter 73

Brian panicked briefly when he arrived at work on Monday and didn't see Sasha's car in the parking lot. He took Bailey out of her car seat and let her walk up to the office. He was surprised to find the door to the office open. He entered with caution and was greeted by Sasha's sister Kelli.

"Good morning Brian."

"Hello." He answered, surprised to see her.

"I bet you are wondering where Sasha is!"

"The thought did cross my mind." He joked. He dumped Bailey's bag of toys onto the floor to occupy her. "You're her sister Kelli right?"

Kelli nodded. "Sasha didn't feel well this morning so she was going to make a doctor's appointment and asked me to fill in until she can get here."

"Why didn't she just call me? The office could have stayed closed until one of us came in."

"I don't know. She said something about not wanting to bother you while you were trying to get the kids ready for school."

Brian bit his lip. The fact Sasha called her sister rather than calling him scared him. He hoped she hadn't hurt herself over the weekend. "You don't need to stick around Kelli. I can handle the office until Sasha gets here."

"I don't mind staying if you need me to Brian."

"That's OK. There is nothing really going on anyway." He hesitated for a minute and then decided to see what Kelli knew about Sasha's situation. "Did Sasha say why she was feeling sick?"

"No." Kelli answered him. "She just said she didn't feel well and thought it might be a good idea if she went to the doctor."

"Kelli, may I ask you something?"

"Sure Brian. What do you want to know?"

Brian pursed his lips. "Was Sasha ever physically abused as a child?"

Kelli laughed. "Sasha? Abused? Where would you get an idea like that?"
