Chapter 85
Sasha maintained a catatonic stare. "I took off my shorts. I didn't want to get blood on them. I made another cut. I knew it was deep. The pain was excruciating but seeing the blood flow out of the cuts as I made them felt so liberating. The pain I had been holding back since the night before flowed out of me. I felt better with each cut. I had made 15 deep cuts before I stopped myself." She let out the air she had been holding in her lungs.
"That is a major melt down Sasha! With that many cuts, you could have bled to death!"
"I know." She replied slowly. "I know."
"How in the world did you make it to the hospital by yourself?" Ben asked again.
Sasha shook her head. "I knew I wasn't going to be able to stop the bleeding on my own. Somehow, I put my shorts back on and grabbed a couple of towels. I got into my car, wrapped the towels around my legs and broke every speed limit between my house and the hospital." She licked her lips. "I still don't know how I did it."
"It is not unusual for people to find hidden power under extreme duress." Trevor commented. "What did you tell the admitting clerk when you got to the hospital?"
Sasha smiled for the first time in minutes. "I told her I was out on my deck, and I tripped and fell on a glass pitcher I was carrying at the time."
"And she believed you?" Ben questioned.
"I don't know. I guess so. Maybe the fact I was wearing a swimsuit helped." She bit her lip. "They put me in a room right away and closed the door. I was really weak. I'm surprised I didn't pass out."
"I'm surprised you didn't pass out!" Trevor exclaimed.
"I heard someone outside the door. He said 'I know this girl. I'll take her.' I wasn't sure who it was at first. I was relieved to see Jamie."
"You were LUCKY it was Jamie!" Ben repeated the statement from an earlier conversation.
Sasha nodded. "I know. I'm thankful he was on call."
"What did he say when he saw what you had done?" Trevor inquired.
