Chapter 39
Howie looked up to see a girl about 15 standing a few feet away. He smiled. "Yes, I am."
"OH WOW!" the girl exclaimed. "Would it be OK if I took a picture of you?" She glanced at Samantha. "I didn't mean to interrupt." She apologized. "It is just that the Backstreet Boys are my favorite group and when I came here to visit my uncle I was hoping I would see you and..." She took a deep breath "I can't believe I am standing here talking to Howie D.!"
"What's your name sweetheart?"
"Um...its...it is Jessica." The girl replied her hands visibly shaking.
"Well Jessica, it is nice to meet you."
"I can't believe I am standing here!" The girl said nervously.
Howie looked at Samantha and smiled. "Do you mind hun?"
Samantha shook her head and started to get up.
"Oh you don't have to get up!" Jessica said quickly. "You can be in the picture."
"I have a better idea Jessica." Samantha replied standing up. "Why don't you sit down next to Howie and I will take a picture of the two of you?"
The girl's eyes grew huge. "You mean it?"
"Sure." Samantha replied reaching for Jessica's camera.
"This is like my totally lucky day!" Jessica exclaimed sitting down beside Howie.
Howie laughed and put his arm around her. "You can say that again Jessica! It isn't every day a prize winning photographer takes a picture of you!"
"You're a photographer?" Jessica asked. "I thought you were like a model or something."
Samantha smiled. "Howie exaggerates. But thank you." Sam aimed the camera. "Smile!" she commanded. 'I am a very lucky person to have Howard in my life. I know a part of him other people will never have the chance to know. Never have the chance to love the way I do.' Samantha thought as she aimed the camera and released the shutter.
"Thank you so much!" Jessica cried jumping up as Sam handed her back her camera. "I'm not going to forget this day as long as I live!"
"You are welcome Jessica." Sam said sitting back down beside Howie. "Will you do me a favor though?"
"If I can." Jessica replied puzzled.
"Do you have a computer and a scanner?" Samantha asked. Jessica nodded her head. "I want to make a scrapbook of people Howie meets. Would you mind scanning the photo and e-mailing it to me?"
Jessica's eyes lit up. "Sure! What's your e-mail address?"
"It is easy to remember but I will write it down for you just in case you forget." Sam said fishing a piece of paper and a pen from her purse. "It is SamIAm@carmel.net. I really appreciate this Jessica."
"No problem! Thank you for taking the picture!"
"It was nice to meet you Jessica." Howie added, taking Samantha's hand in his.
"It was great to meet you too!" She glanced at Samantha. "Both of you. Thanks again!" she said turning to leave.
Howie turned to Sam. "I hope you didn't mind that."
"Why would I mind hun? She was a sweet little girl."
"They aren't always that sweet. Sometimes, well, there may be times when we get interrupted when we want to be alone. I just want you to be prepared." He ran his hand along her cheek before pulling her close for a quick kiss. "Thank you for taking the picture. You made her day."
Samantha smiled. "I'll admit I was a little jealous or something at first. Then I realized, I have been given the opportunity to know a part of you fans like Jessica will never get to know. I love you Howard. I am so thankful I met you."
"What did I do to deserve you?" Howie asked shaking his head.
Samantha blushed. "I keep asking myself the same question about you!"
Howie stood up and offered his hands to Samantha. He pulled her to her feet. "I love you Sam. I love you so much!" He kissed her. "Let's get you home."
