My Heart Stays With You

Chapter 67

"None for me thanks." Samantha replied shaking her head.

Cindy got up from the table to help Jill. Howie caught them exchanging a glance that told him they were fully aware of Samantha's problem. "Sam, Kait & Jenna baked that chocolate butterscotch cake you love with the coconut on top. You have to eat at least a small slice so their efforts are not in vain." Cindy prompted.

"Adam can eat my portion for me. He loves that cake too."

"Sounds delicious to me!" Howie spoke up. "I am ready to try it."

"I'll help you clear the table." Samantha said standing up. She took her plate as well as her father's and Howie's into the kitchen.

"I have work to finish." Keir stated arising from his seat. "Please bring me a cup of coffee with my cake." He said to no one in particular. He turned and headed back toward his study.

Kait entered the dining room just as Samantha emerged from the kitchen. "Sam are we going dancing or to a movie or something tonight?"

Samantha's face brightened up. "You know I am always up for dancing but you and Adam are the only ones that could get into a club with Howie and I. I don't want to leave Jenna out and even if he could get in, Kyle isn't much of a dancer."

"That was before he met Amanda!" Kait said raising her eyebrows at Samantha.

"Oh really?" Samantha giggled. "It certainly took him long enough!"

"Sam I wish you could have seen Natasha and I trying to teach him to dance! He may have natural ability when it comes to soccer and water polo but he dances like Frankenstein!" She laughed. "I think even Bradley caught on faster than Kyle did!"

Samantha laughed as she tried to picture her nephew dancing. "We all have our specialties! You, Natasha and I unquestionably got the dancing ability! I don't know how the two of you did though because your dad's idea of dancing looks more like Kyle's version!"

"Kyle's coming along. He has been to a few school dances now."

Howie came back into the dining room followed by Adam and Kyle. He and Adam each carried two plates of cake, while Kyle brought up the rear carrying a tray with milk and glasses and another plate of cake. Adam handed Kait a plate while Kyle poured glasses of milk. Howie handed Samantha one of the plates of cake. "Sam you are going to eat this if I have to feed it to you myself." He said quietly. "I don't want you passing out on me again." He added.

Samantha reluctantly took the cake and sat down at the table. Howie sat down beside her with Kait and Adam across from them. "So what are the plans for tonight?" Adam asked.

"I wanted to go dancing but Jenna and Kyle aren't old enough to get into a club so I guess we can go to the movies." Kait answered.

"We could get them into a club." Adam said as he took a drink of milk. "Keri and I have taken Jen with us before."

"Jenna can pass for 18. I am not sure Kyle can though." Samantha said scrunching her eyebrows and looking at Kyle.

"He doesn't have to be 18." Jenna said joining the group. "I just chatted with someone who told me about a club that serves dinner until 9pm. If you get in before 9pm, they don't make you leave as long as you are with someone over 21 who is willing to be responsible for you. They won't let you drink but you can still dance."

Howie glanced at his watch. "That would give us 45 minutes to get changed and there. Do you think we have time?"

"Did I mention the club is less than a block from our hotel?" Jenna asked grinning.

"Looks like this is our lucky night!" Samantha said excitedly. "Let's say goodbyes as quickly as possible and get out of here!" She downed the remainder of her milk and headed toward the kitchen.

"Right behind you Sam!" Adam echoed.

The group loaded their dishes into the dishwasher and said hasty goodbyes to their families.

"Be careful you guys." Christopher cautioned. "I don't want to have to bail you out for corrupting minors!" He smiled.

Sam kissed her brother on the cheek. "Don't worry Christopher. You taught me well when it comes to evading police custody!"

"Very funny Samantha!" He laughed. "Have fun you guys. Remember mom is planning a huge brunch in the morning so don't stay out too late."

"OK. See you tomorrow."
