My Heart Stays With You

Chapter 92

Samantha was greatly relieved when brunch the next morning consisted of only a few remarks by her father regarding her relationship with Howard. Christopher & Peter kept the conversation flowing and redirected it when necessary to avoid a confrontation with their father. She was pleased to see her mother had warmed up to Howard and was now treating him with the respect he deserved. Overall, Samantha was very pleased with how the morning went. She should have known the tranquility was too good to be true.

Keir Danner beckoned his daughter to follow him into his private study as the dishes were being cleared from the table. "Samantha," he said, "I think you and I need to have a talk."

"Yes father" Samantha replied, obediently following her father into his study.

Keir closed the door to his study the majority of the way, then walked across the room and sat down on the corner of his desk. Samantha stood motionless in front of her father. "Is there something wrong father?" She questioned hesitantly.

Her father sighed "Samantha, you are a bright girl so I will get right to the point." He raised his eyes and looked straight into those of his daughter. "I want you to give up this ridiculous business of creating WebPages or whatever you call playing with your computer all day, and go back into practice with Christopher. You have wasted enough time pursing other avenues. It is time for you to stop being a worthless child and assume the responsibilities of an adult. You are a certified pediatrician. You need to put your education and your degree to use."

Samantha was left dumbstruck and speechless by her father's words. She started to speak but was quickly silenced.

"And" Keir continued, "You are to stop chasing after that musician you brought here immediately. You need to find someone who is your intellectual equal." Seeing the look in his daughter's eyes, Keir went on to explain. "This Howard is a nice enough fellow, but honestly Samantha what do the 2 of you have in common? You are an intelligent young woman, with a medical degree. He is a boy who, dances around the stage singing to teenage girls about love and God only knows what else. He probably has girlfriend just like you in every city he has ever been to! You know how this is going to end up." He stated as he stood up from his desk and walked over to his daughter. He placed his hands on her shoulders and finished his speech. "I am saying this for your own good Samantha. I don't want you to end up like Taryn."

Samantha's mouth fell open, as her breath caught in her throat. She stepped back away from her father before speaking. "Is that what this whole speech is about? Taryn?" Samantha closed her eyes, gritted her teeth and took a deep breath. "Father I am not Taryn! I never have been and I never will be!"

"Don't raise your voice to me in my house Samantha!" Keir commanded. "I'm not stupid! I realize you are not Taryn! That doesn't change the fact you are heading down the same destructive path she did and I am not going to lose another daughter!" The look in Samantha's eyes sent chills down his spine. 'She may not be Taryn but that look is definitely a part of Taryn.' he thought as he watched his oldest daughter grind her jaws together.

"I should have known!" Samantha spat "I should have known the minute you called me in here that you were going to somehow bring Taryn into MY LIFE! And may I remind you she was NOT your daughter!"

"Samantha Nichole I warned you not to raise your voice to me in my house!" Keir shot back.
